Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, in-person programming has been moved to virtual presentations for the coming year.
The HWGC holds monthly meetings Wednesday evenings, September through June.
Selected meetings are open to the Community at Large while others are offered to membership only.

The Dirt on Good Dirt
viaZoom, free and open
                                   to the Community at Large

Why is soil so important? Soil is the foundation of basic ecosystem function. Soil filters our water, provides essential nutrients to our forests and crops, and helps regulate the Earth's temperature as well as many of the important greenhouse gases.
We all know that nutrient-rich soil is important for growing veggies and healthy plants, but what’s the best way to get there? Learn about how to improve your soil without toxic chemicals for maximum output and plant hardiness. Learn about the benefits to the planet, including waterways.
Panelists will discuss how to make and integrate compost and the lasagna method, a way to create soil and reduce weeds that build up healthy soil over time. This session will include a speaker from Gloucester organic fertilizer company Neptune’s Harvest, who wowed us with their know-how (and product samples!) at last year’s Conservation Expo. And joining us will be Kirstin Ohlson, author of the book, The Soil Will Save Us: How Scientists, Farmers and Foodies are Healing the Soil to Save the Planet, which looks at the movement to create an agriculture that respects nature, heals landscapes, and produces plenty of food.
As this event will be free and open to the public, we encourage you to invite friends who might be interested in joining the Hamilton-Wenham Garden Club in April.

             The Art in Bloom Roadshow
viaZoom, for HWGC members
                                    and the Community at Large

Each Spring, local garden clubs apply to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to be assigned a work of art to interpret through floral design. The MFA started Art in Bloom in 1976, and the concept is now popular in art museums across the country. During a non-Covid year, thousands of attendees visit the MFA during the 4-day Art in Bloom event. This year, a Zoom talk will take us behind-the-scenes at Art in Bloom and show stunning examples of floral interpretations of MFA art objects, presented by an MFA senior associate floral designer.
Please register in advance via Eventbrite.com. Open to the public, $10 donation suggested.
