2019, the dedication year Tuesday, January 15, 2019 Garden Committee selects a style of plant marker stake to best identify all of the shrubs and trees that were donated and installed last fall, 2018. Plant marker stakes will list the Latin name, common name and a small dedication shared by the donor. The order for these plant stakes went out in early February, they will be installed in early May, 2019. |
Early winter, 2019 Garden Committee begins to envision an official opening during the first week of June, 2019. This will coincide with National Garden Week. Research on additional plant material and additional funding for the project takes place. Numerous meetings, discussions and research build the foundation as the garden heads into Phase II. Winter A prospective Eagle Scout steps up with a plan to build two picnic tables for the garden. After a great deal of planning and coordination on his part to ensure his project approval, these tables will be built this spring and generously donated and placed to the left of the garden under the tall pine trees. Late winter/Early spring Garden Committee members begin the arduous task of researching appropriate plant material for this next phase of the garden. Aerial photos of the garden are taken so placement of perennials will complete the garden design taking into consideration texture, color, scale and specific plant needs. Although native plants are at the forefront of the plan due to their ability to adapt to NE seasons, specific non-native plants are also included for design purposes.
Month of March, 2019 With a perennial plan established, numerous perennial plugs are ordered with installation planned for the week of April 22, 2019 and the week of May 6, 2019. Month of April Unassembled Pingree Park Garden benches are delivered directly to the park under the watchful eye of some Garden Committee members and the Wenham Department of Public Works! A huge FedEx truck arrives with a special lift-gate in order to safely unload the full weight of the bundled benches. Volunteers plant orange and blue pansies within the garden to offer color and welcome as fall bulbs break ground and foundation trees and shrubs show signs of budding. Saturday, April 20, 2019 Easter weekend and signs of spring! (Daffodils, tulips, pansies and budding trees and shrubs.) A very damp young garden awaits its ‘foundation’ perennial plugs in transit.

“Welcome to the Community” opening celebration!
An informal gathering for our donors, volunteers, friends, neighbors and park visitors!
We enjoyed a quick stroll through the paths and a word about the different plant material selected for our garden design.
