who we are

We are members of the Hamilton & Wenham communities, seeking to share knowledge
and resources with one another, and to reach out to our community members at large.

Our Mission is to stimulate an interest in the knowledge and love of all phases of gardening,
to aid in the protection and conservation of natural resources, and to promote civic beauty.

Who comprises the Hamilton-Wenham Garden Club and why do we gather?
                                                    – Co-President Paula Bartlett
We are the women and men of the Hamilton-Wenham community who have a passion for gardening through a shared mission “to stimulate an interest in the knowledge and love of all phases of gardening, to aid in the protection and conservation of natural resources, and to promote civic beauty.”
We are a group of over 100 people strong who are dedicated to exploring educational opportunities related to the conservation of our natural resources, and bringing people together through the greening of our community.  We stand as an example of environmental responsibility through our diverse array of programmatic offerings for our members and the community at large, and through our exemplary Pingree Park Garden, hosting native plants and educational opportunities.
Our many talented members are involved in the beautification of Hamilton-Wenham through our sponsored civic boxes, hosting four seasonal arrangements highlighting design. Our talented members judge and teach nationally, enter floral design competitions, and share their gardens and knowledge with our membership.
We share our knowledge and love of all aspects of gardening through our Garden Therapy committee, which promotes social interaction and floral workshops for our seniors. We offer a Juniors program to encourage members’ younger relatives to participate, and we offer an annual scholarship to a graduating high school senior living in our community.
We were 85 years young last year. Our club’s vibrant history could not be more important. The strength of our club is its members, both past and present. We all have had the opportunity to share memories, reminisce, learn from the past, and hope for the future with flexibility, as we navigated the Coronavirus pandemic.  I want to thank our Board, who supported my decision to continue online, so that we could thrive without interruption.
In fact, during the first half of 2020, our club remained vibrant and active. Though we weren't able to meet in person, we gathered online for program meetings, all our board meetings, and our cherished annual meeting. We shared news and garden tips using 21st century media. We were able to meet in small groups for socially distanced summer garden tours. And our beautiful newsletter continued to help connect us.
Our educational programming will continue without pause throughout 2022-2023, as we return to in-person program meetings. We’ve engaged speakers who complement our mission and use electronic media when needed to spread their education to us and to the community at large. Learning about local wildlife, ecological floral design, and the future of sustainable food production are only a small portion of what our industrious Programs Committee has in store for us.

Like a garden we are ever changing, always growing,
constantly shaping, and forever sharing.
