Pingree Park Garden:  Spring cleanup,
March 2022 : many hands

At this time of year we think of Spring being just around the corner.  We anxiously await bulbs to pop through and the forsythia
to sprout their yellow blooms.

On Saturday, March 26, a large group gathered to prep the garden for spring. They brought clippers and buckets and went to work! Many stayed for a pruning workshop with Matt Martin.
He guided us through basic pruning, demonstrating on a few different shrub types, answered questions and provided some take home information.

A warm thank you from HWGC
to those who made this garden possible

We are deeply grateful to the Town of Wenham, particularly to Peter Lombardi, Town Administrator and the Wenham Board of Selectmen for believing in us, and providing us with not only the location but also the full support of the Wenham Department of Public Works.
As we all know, it truly takes a village to create something that will stand the test of time.  Although this is a new project and will be ongoing with a two year plan, five year plan and eight year plan, it will be a project that will be maintained by HWGC for many years down the road.
These are the many folks who have shared their enthusiasm
and support for the start of this project.
We are truly grateful!

This project will be catalogued with information left here on our website and at our Public Library, so future generations can see the steps taken and make changes over time to accommodate the needs of the day. Although we are applying for grants to help support this venture, we would greatly welcome any additional support you may wish to share.  Please feel free contact us at any time. We’ll keep you updated as this project continues … in the meantime; we’d like to express our thanks to the many folks who have already contributed by way of conversations or by offering their time, expertise and/or materials.

A very sincere thank you to these folks for their most recent contributions.
Without their gift of volunteer time, talent or funding, we would not have reached the completion of our Phase One which included:
  • Digging garden shape, paths and installing path materials
  • Finalizing tree and shrub clean-up
  • Donations/funding to bring the plant foundation design to life
  • Digging and installation of foundation plantings
  • Delivery and placement of boulders
  • Mulch/mulching to prep for winter
